Hello my name is Sarevok and this is my website, and it is called PeerWeb! I hope you think it's pretty okay!
PeerWeb is a website indexing content primarily on the Gnutella2 peer-to-peer network. We utilise unique file identification hashes to create Magnet links for use with any program that supports them. Using such a program enables you to download any file you see listed on the site, however it is not available from the site itself. Click here to learn more about the PeerWeb.
Domain Transfer
As you are likely aware, for the past three years PeerWeb has experienced down time around the end of each January. The reason for this is because, although paid in full, our domain registrar fails to renew the domain in time and thus for several days it appeared as if we are offline. In an effort to prevent this from happening again in January of 2009 I am initiating a transfer of the peerweb.org domain to another registrar. The benefit should be that we will no longer have to deal with the unacceptable down time. The problem however is that during the transfer of the domain there will be a period of time (hours? days?) when the domain may have no name servers or the DNS will be out of sync with what it should be. The goal for this notice is simply to make you aware of the fact ahead of time so that it will be expected by everyone on PeerWeb and so that you won't panic if the site is unreachable in the near future. The transfer will happen within the next 1-10 days, whenever it is accepted at the registrar's end. Hopefully it will go well and everything regarding DNS will transition perfectly but you never know.
Update: The transfer has been completed.
ApexDC++ 1.0.1 Final
Back in 2006 I posted here announcing the release of the very first test version of ApexDC++, and after a long hiatus I'm at it again! Things have been progressing extremely well within the project, and this is our biggest announcement yet...
We've just released version 1.0.1, the culmination of over two years of development. With well over a million downloads, ApexDC++ has firmly established itself as a major player in the DC game, and if you haven't checked it out yet I highly recommend you do!
Head over to ApexDC.net to have a look for yourself.
Record attempt
Just a quick one to say go check out the record attempt we've got going on today (February 29th) to try and break our all-time users-online record.
Keep visiting today, there are some good tips in there for helping out!
Arcade Relaunch!
After a lengthy hiatus, I am pleased to announce that the PeerWeb Arcade has returned! I'd like to take this opportunity to also let people know that not all of the games will work for the time being, so if you find games that are not working correctly, please report them in this thread. Sadly, all high-scores have been wiped, but on the bright side, you should still be able to defend that trophy you had months ago once you get some practice in!
Hope you all enjoy the Arcade (again)!
Shareaza.com Scam Site
As we previously posted, the website now seen at shareaza.com is no longer owned by the developers of the Shareaza P2P Application or any party involved in its development. Rather, it is managed and run by a group who is intent on manipulating the innocent user into downloading their malware application. In regards to this a new development has recently surfaced. Old versions of Shareaza accessed information available at the address 'update.shareaza.com' in order to learn if a new version was available and subsequently request to upgrade. Now that this domain is in the hands of a 3rd party with hostile intentions they have recreated this address and now feed false information to versions of Shareaza that access the site requesting for upgrade data. These older versions of Shareaza then report that an upgrade is available and inform the user to download it from the false site at shareaza.com. This is of course a ploy and any and all users of an outdated version of Shareaza (6 months old and older) must be informed of this.
If you know of anyone using an older version then please let them know that the current official website for Shareaza is shareaza.sf.net and that they should not upgrade Shareaza using its built in upgrade function unless it is one of the latest official open source versions. The loss of the shareaza.com domain happened under most unfortunate circumstances and hopefully in due time everyone will be aware of the switch in the address.
